Belly dancing enhances sexual pleasure; let's not deny this or be silent about it. Every belly dancer knows this. Belly dancing is almost as good as having sex. By making the movements with your pelvis, sexual energy is being awakened.
Belly dancing is mostly about the pelvic area, the hips, thighs and bottom. It's far less about the belly than people tend to think.
So how does that work, developing your sexuality by belly dancing?
When belly dancing, women become aware of their female bodies and learn how to move them in ways they're not used to. You use muscles, such as pelvic floor muscles, and train them. These muscles, when trained, give heightened sexual pleasure when making love. How can you enjoy sex when you're unfamiliar with your female body?
Furthermore, when belly dancing, you're intimate with yourself. You're enjoying yourself and getting to know yourself better. Your feelings and body also make up a great part of who you are.
The female body is a bit more complicated than the male body, I dare to say. The sexual organs are tucked away a bit more, right? You need to make more effort to develop your sexuality, and this is worth it. The more you mature as a woman, the more you enjoy sex. Remember: the more a woman ages, the more she becomes a woman.
Overall we can say that belly dancing stimulates the sexual development and maturing of women, and this enriches the lives of women (and men). I also believe that a well-developed sexuality is good for female overall health.
In the West, learning our female bodies's not part of our culture. In Arabic countries, it is. Girls know how to shake their hips and believe me, there are about twenty ways to shake your hips. And shaking your hips is just one movement within belly dance.
Belly dancing celebrates the female body: you express movements that suit your female body and enjoy doing that.
Of course, men find this attractive. To be honest, though, belly dancing is not about men. Sorry to disappoint the gents here. Women have their party, their enjoyment. They celebrate together. It's empowering for women to experience the joys of womanhood together. You could say that men enjoy belly dancing indirectly because their woman will glow and feel happy and confident after belly dancing. She will enjoy making love, and this connection is beautiful for the relationship.
Another advantage is that women develop a positive body image by belly dancing: they feel more acceptance and appreciation of their bodies. This ties into self-love, which is essential for a healthy sex life. How can a woman enjoy having sex when she is not in touch with her pelvic area and breasts? When she does not feel that her hips are beautiful, her shoulders are, and when she has never felt how beautiful she really is?
In belly dance, you make flowing and staccato movements. Small and big, light and dramatic, playful or heavy. The scope of movements and expression is vast. By the time a woman has been belly dancing for a couple of years, she has matured immensely.
She can enjoy herself, feel comfortable with her body, find herself attractive and love to move her female body. Her tummy, too: We can bear children and love our bellies. Or love it because this is where our womb is, the seat of our womanhood.
When you belly dance, you channel energy like when having sex. You can have purely physical sex for physical enjoyment; this is a choice.
You can also move more into sacred sex or tantra, where sex merges with spirituality. It is all about energy and using sexual energy to expand your consciousness. The more free you feel, the more you can dive into this higher consciousness. Belly dancing helps you to become more free and expand your experience of sexuality. This is also great for your partner.
You can also add the strong factor of love to having sex, either more physically or spiritually: make love from the heart. And this is where self-love comes in: the more you accept yourself, the easier it is to love another person and to enjoy your lovemaking.
I am convinced belly dancing has led to a fulfilling sex life and a healthy moon cycle. I am 48 years old, have three children, and feel great! Of course, other factors play a role in your well-being and ageing gracefully. The bottom line is that belly dancing has made me grow immensely as a woman, and I wish all women enjoy the benefits of belly dancing!
